Co-sponsored by Jewish Family & Career
Services, The Larry Bregman, M.D. Educational Conference offers adults with developmental
disabilities, their families and their caregivers
the opportunity to learn about topics that
might not be addressed in other venues.
This symposium provides opportunities for
participants to socialize with others who
share their interests and needs in a unique
conference atmosphere.
This year, the 15th
Annual Conference theme,
Strive to Thrive, will be reflected
throughout the program that includes
educational workshops, recreational
activities and a keynote presentation by
Darius Weems and Crew. Darius, a
15-year-old with Duchenne Muscular
Dystrophy, had never left his hometown of
Athens, Georgia. In the summer of 2005, he
and a group of young college students
traveled across the country in a
wheelchair-accessible RV to test
accessibility in America.
Their
project and mission has been documented in
the film, Darius Goes West: The Roll of His
Life. The film will be shown at the
conference. Darius and Logan Smalley have
recently appeared on the TODAY Show and
Ellen DeGeneres. For more information visit

The 2008 Bregman Conference
promises to be the best one yet!

The
Larry Bregman, M.D. Educational Conference began in 1993 to honor the
memory of Dr. Larry Bregman.
Dr.
Bregman was a member of the
Jewish Family & Career Services
(JF&CS) Developmental Disabilities
Committee and a prominent Atlanta
pediatrician who worked to see that
children with disabilities and their
families were informed and educated
about the many abilities people
with disabilities posses.
|
 |
The
conference is the first of its kind
in Georgia to offer programming
which addresses the needs of people
with disabilities, for people with
disabilities. This program provides
the opportunity to learn about topics
that might not be available in other
venues within an atmosphere which
encourages socializing while learning.
